Recalcitrant Trash: anthropomorphized electric erasers
2015
repurposing, mass production, globalization, labour
This collection is made from repurposed parts and they automatically work to erase the surface on which they sit. Their movements embody actions of labour that express the effort of workers in factories. Globalization has allowed large corporations to search the globe for the cheapest labour in countries with less strict labour laws and environmental regulations. The distance that our basic products travel is not only costly in oil, but also it disconnects us from an understanding of the impact on the lives of people and the environment that make them.
